The Untold Story of the Nurses Who Helped Cure Tuberculosis by Maria Smilios chronicles the forgotten, courageous stories of Black nurses in 1930s-60s NYC. 
Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria, typically attacking the lungs but capable of affecting other body parts.  Looking for a read aloud to read to your middle or high schoolers or an audio book for yourself (yes, we believe in read aloud to middle and high schoolers. They help to develop listening skills)? To keep the writing interesting, she is incorporating Canva to add illustrations to writing pieces. Writing assignments have included completing a story starter, a brochure and a comic strip to name a few.
